Welcome to Sessions
15 weeks. 15 stories. The last time I'll tell them.
There’s a basketball court inside the Life Time Target Center in Downtown Minneapolis that doesn’t exist anymore.
The floors are gone. The scoreboard’s gone. The six teams that showed up on a Tuesday night in March 2006. Most of them are gone too.
But I can still hear the echo of that first whistle, the post-game stories, the 80s pregame playlist, the sight of Mary operating the scoreboard. I’ve been carrying these memories for twenty years.
This is where I put it down.
Sessions is a fifteen-part series, published weekly, beginning March 28, 2026, exactly twenty years to the day the first Ultimate Hoops games tipped off. Each installment is built like a track on an album: one story, one truth, one song chosen for the feel of the moment. Hit play on the Suggested Listening, then read. Or read in silence.
No business frameworks. No lessons learned. Just the moments I remember, some of which I’ve never told anyone, until now.
This is the last time I’ll tell this story.
How to read
New Sessions arrive every Saturday morning. At the end of the series: bonus tracks you’ve never heard.
It starts with a phone call. June. Tuscany, Italy. The sky turning red.
This series is dedicated to my dad, who never got to see it.
If you’re here to start your own recreational sports league, or simply to sit with the story of someone who did, welcome.
You’re in the right place.
