Session 4: Planting The Flag
Everyone thought I was crazy. One voice cut through the doubt.
Suggested Listening: “Raising The Sail” by Phillip Glass
Another two years passed after that napkin in Austin.
I moved back to Minnesota. I rented a loft in the old Creamette Building downtown. I was freelance writing for small publications and working on a historical fiction novel when a family member introduced me to Tom Redmond.
Tom had started Redmond Products in 1979 at forty-six. He built the Aussie Shampoo brand. Purple packaging. The kangaroo. A household name in every drugstore in America.
He was in his seventies when I met him and still a force of nature. He had a two hundred page science fiction novel he wanted someone to help him finish. I told him what I liked about it and what I’d change. He hired me after our first lunch.
